Horizontal Scale Board

View of simple metal yardstick as a scale board located horizontally at eye level at the front of the carriage.

A detailed view of the scale board and vernier. Along the top are milled slots for sawing 1 inch boards...near the bottom holes for 2 inch stock and smaller holes for 5/4 boards. The vernier makes it easy for sizing a log to the desired cant dimensions. Example: If I want a 6 inch cant I start the first cut with the 6 on the vernier scale at a milled slot at say 8 1/2 inches and slice off two flitches.
