818. [The following is in box CRX 76 Salisbury Dist. Court Papers.] a deed

Nov. 7, 1795 Adlai Osborn, Commissioner & attorney for Trustees of UNC (Iredell Co) to David Cowen (Rowan Co); for £5,000 sold (1) 12,500 ac which is tract 16 of "great" tract No. 6; granted Mar. 3, 1745 by George III to William Hoston and "afterwards" sold to William Tryon; border: SE corner of tract 15 at 2 post oaks on E side of Long Cr, runs E 250 chains, N 500 chains, W 250 chains, & S to the beginning; (2) 12,500 ac tract 17 of part said tract No. 5 granted Mar. 3, 1745 by George III to Henry Stingsby [sic]; border: on NE corner of tract No. 16, runs N 500 chains, W 250 chains, S 500 chains, E to the beginning, & joins tract 15 on S and tract 18 on W; and (3) 12,500 ac tract 19 part of said tract No. 6 granted Mar. 3, 1745 by George III to Henry Hawson; border: a gum on NE corner of tract 12, runs S 500 chains to 2 post oaks & a dogwood, E 250 chains, N 500 chains, W 250 chains, & to the beginning; the total is 37,500 ac with "revertion" of 12,500 ac "already in possession of several tenants" and held by State grants or "long actual occupancy" and dispersed among said tracts 16, 17, & 19; the latter 12,500 ac is excluded from this deed; the land escheated to the State and by Act of Assembly were granted to Trustees of UNC.
